MOVIES, MUSIC AND CELEBRITY PARITES INVADE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY

Southern California’s wine country will be invaded by film, music and celebrities during the 16th Annual Temecula Valley International Film Festival, September 15-19, 2010.  The internationally renowned festival is comprised of more than 150 screenings of features, documentaries and shorts from around the world, a two-day music festival, film and music industry workshops, celebrity studded parties and a marketplace bazaar in the Southern California wine country town of Temecula.  Career Achievement Awards will be presented to actor Eric Roberts (THE EXPENDABLES, DARK KNIGHT) for acting, and pop legend Kenny Loggins (FOOTLOOSE, THIS IS IT) for music.  San Diego State University School of Theatre, Television and Film will be honored for their Academic Excellence in the Arts.  Lifetime Achievement recipients will be announced shortly.  Tickets go on sale August 30 online at www.tviff.com or by phone at (951) 699-5514.

- Star-Studded Event Raises Proceeds for Local Family Scholarships to the YMCA -
The Southwest Family YMCA will be hosting its Annual Red & Black Ball at Wilson Creek Winery, Saturday, October 2, 2010. This year will mark the event’s 10th Anniversary and to celebrate, the YMCA has incorporated several new aspects into the night’s festivities. Along with the popular live and silent auction, dinner and dancing, the 2010 Red & Black Ball will feature “Dancing for the Y,” a twist on the popular celebrity dance competition craze. This competition will pit community leaders and city officials against one another to raise money for local families.

“We are very excited for our 10th Annual Red & Black Ball, as it has become one of most popular charity events in the Valley over the years,” said Kyra Pelachik , Southwest Family YMCA Branch Director. “With 100% of the proceeds going back to our scholarship program, we think supporting our community’s families has never been so much fun!”

The Red and Black Ball is the largest fundraiser held annually by the Southwest Family YMCA and this year will feature a new dance competition portion of the evening with its first ever “Dancing for the Y.” Similar to the popular celebrity dance show, this competition will feature community leaders including Janet Beck, Dan Stephenson, Beverly Stephenson, Gene Wunderlich and Roger Ziemer. Participants will train over the next two months while paired with Arthur Murray professional dancers to perform one dance at the Red & Black Ball. The winner will be decided by a panel of judges and awarded a trophy. Providing the night’s musical entertainment will be John Tavaglonie and the Legendary Mustangs.  

The Red & Black Ball raises money for the more than hundreds of children and their families, that are currently on scholarship at the Southwest Family YMCA in Temecula helping them live healthier lives and strengthen their community. The event is being held from 6pm to 10:30pm at Wilson Creek Winery with tickets now on sale. A single ticket price is $115 with a table of 8 at $800. Sponsorship opportunities are also available and both can be purchased on the event’s website www.redandblackball.org.

It’s official celebrate California Wine Month all month. September will mark the sixth annual California Wine Month, as proclaimed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

We are so lucky to live in California. We are especially lucky to live in or near Temecula Wine Country. People plan their annual vacations to visit the wine country; it’s a place brides make their dreams come true, limos and busses bring loads of curios visitors daily to enjoy now over 40 wineries and the magic of wine country.

All the while we just happen to live here. We can experience a short get away in minutes. Take advantage and enjoy Wine country. Take a break and enjoy the restaurants, balloon rides, tours and of course the wine.  We have the large to small boutique wineries for the novice to the seasoned coinsurer.

Did you know that the winner of the Golden Bear, top honors for Best Winery awarded at California State Fair, was located in Temecula?  In fact the winery held that honor for two consecutive years. Do you know who it is? Find out what Temecula wine has been served at the White House.  Which winery keeps the U.S. Navy in wine for their Captains dinner? Theses are just a few of the exciting things awaiting you in Wine Country.

As noted, Gov. Schwarzenegger has proclaimed September as California Wine Month. The events are being planned statewide. You can participate in most wine appellations or you can support and enjoy Temecula Wine Country.
